AGE DIVISION: 14U. The March 26 agreement states that players will receive prorated pay only for the number of games their teams play, but MLB made an exception for the Nats, Phillies and Yankees since they weren’t responsible for the postponed games.Major League Baseball made a lot of noise a couple of months ago about how great its anti-COVID-19 protocols were. As of today there’s a city that wishes to join that group: Raleigh:The problem, though: (a) that behavior has not been confirmed in any way, it’s just rumored; and (b) even if some people on the club did do unsafe things that led to their infection, it’s doubtful everyone did, so punishing those who were not involved and who merely got infected because they shared a clubhouse or a bus or a plane with those who were is kind of a problem. Better late than never, right? It’s not hard to imagine baseball going to 32 teams, though. There is no way a team would survive if the Triangle community saw them as the reason the Bulls went away. If baseball helps bring out an aspect of our city that we can embrace and the world starts seeing it as the Raleigh-way, it’ll be more than just baseball that benefits but something that Raleigh-based businesses, non-profits, residents, and visitors can experience 365 days a year.As Raleigh’s growth continues it would set us up well if the city could find that identity and build some kind of foundation to build on. One team missing its top newcomer meets another without its ace pitcher when the Los Angeles Angels visit the Oakland Athletics to open the 2020 season on Friday night. Please send us an email with the link to the page you are on, the organization name, the team name, and the organization that should be associated with this team to pgbateampages@perfectgame.org. But I think that matters and I’d be curious to know what teeth, if any, the job would have to actually enforce things.Which is to say, MLB instituted a system based on recommendations and trust and now it is considering docking the pay of not only those who may have not followed those recommendations, but everyone who was infected by their irresponsible behavior. Whether an MLB team in Raleigh makes sense or not is one thing but behind the covers of this sports-related effort is a true Raleigh-based conversation. Talk about passing the buck.Following the coronavirus outbreak that infected nearly half of the Miami Marlins’ roster and prompted the temporary suspension of the team’s season, Major League Baseball is encouraging players not to leave hotels in road cities except for games, mandating the use of surgical masks instead of cloth masks during travel and requiring every team to travel with a compliance officer who ensures players and staff properly follow the league’s protocol, sources told ESPN.MLB has yet to determine whether the Marlins players will be paid for the postponed games if they are unable to play every game in the 60-game season, but will pay the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Yankees and Washington Nationals for games missed because of the Marlins’ outbreak . It made no provision about what to do if a certain number of players on a given team tested positive, let alone the number of positive tests that would be required to shut a team down. ORGANIZATION: ... We can fix it! And, that aside, MLB, we must reiterate, had no mandatory or enforceable guidelines which actually governed the players’ behavior and there was no one in place to ensure compliance with the league’s suggestions. All of it is academic without expansion, however. Both because there are more cities that could support teams now than there are teams and because Major League Baseball owners love to print money in the form of expansion franchise fees, and two expansion teams are likely to put a couple billion bucks in the owners’ pockets.Passan doesn’t say who the compliance officer will be or should be. My guess is that they’ll be in whichever city which signals that it will give the greatest gifts to the league and the new owners in the form of a stadium and other concessions. All MLB News You could argue that we are in the first big growth boom that Raleigh has experienced. No room for a MLB team in a market with one of the best, most storied, and most popular minor league teams in the country. .
